1 〔頼ってつかまる〕 cling to 《sb's sleeve》; hang on; hold on to [take hold of, grab] 《a rope》; lean on 《a stick》.

●肩にすがって泣く cry on sb's shoulder

・腕にすがって歩く walk on [holding on to] sb's arm

・杖にすがって歩く walk (leaning) on a stick.

●彼女は彼の遺体にすがって泣いていた. She was clinging to his dead body in tears.

2 〔求め頼る〕 depend [rely] on…; lean [hang] on…; 〔助けを哀願する〕 appeal to…; entreat [implore] 《sb to do》.
